Re: Commit to life on the Maldives.

It is strange the amount of anti-scientific views people have. They keep forecasting that places like the Maldives are going to flood. Even if the alarmists were in fact right about the ocean level increases (the scientific evidence says otherwise), the Maldives would not sink below the ocean. The reasoning that alarmists have is that they note that the Maldives are only a few feet above sea level. So, if the sea rises a few feet, then certainly the Maldives would be under water right?

Wrong.

The reason that they are wrong is not just because these type of alarmist thinkers are ignorant of basic geology but they also have poor reasoning skills:

Why is it that such islands always exist no matter what the ocean level and why is it that they never get more than a few feet above sea level?

If they were to ask such questions of themselves and then do some simple research, they would find out that sea level rise for places like the Maldives is not a problem. Basically, the Maldives will increase in height to match sea level rises and decrease in height as the sea level decreases.

The other point is that as CO2 levels rise, this will result in larger atols and coral islands - all things being equal such as not overfishing certain species of fish needed for coral health or dumping pollution in the ocean that damages the coral.

The funny thing about this is that an article was in the New Scientist magazine a while back which indicated that "scientists were surprised" to find that most of the atols are growing larger ( link). LOL - my thought was that those must have been AGW alarmist scientists because the fact that the atols rise and fall with sea level has been known since ancient times.
