Steve McIntyre is much loathed by the "Hockey Team" researchers for pointing out the problems with their peer reviewed (by other hockey team members) body of work.
Such errors as using a statistical method that would turn even random data into a hockey stick shaped graph have been exposed. But what is most vexing to the hockey team members and AGW alarmists in general is that Steve McIntyre will not stop pushing and exposing the errors made by the Hockey team when they put together the highly cited Yamal chronology. Yamal is often highlighted in the IPCC reports and was part of the data Al Gore used to base the hockey stick in his move on.
The Hockey team and various AGW alarmists joined ranks to condemn Steve McIntyre's presumption to use ALL the data he could get to create his own temperature chronology of the Yamal area. Steve was eventually able to force the Hockey team to provide the data by filing FOIA requests and appealing when the request was denied. The data that the Hockey team had was gathered and paid for by grants from the government or tax payer money so was subject to FOIA requests. However, even using FOIA requests, he never got everything. Steve was also helped along by scientists who for some reason have or had access to the data even though they are not part of the team. A real scientist will obviously share their data and work with other scientists (after publishing) in order to determine if there were problems. Pseudo scientists such as the Hockey Team obviously can't share all their data and methods even after publishing reports based on the data because if they did, everyone would find out that the data didn't actually support the scientific papers that they wrote. Anyway, Steve McIntyre presumed to use a very straight forward method of analyzing the data (a no tricks method). The graph of the data shows what would be expected based on other temperature proxies. It shows the earth warmed since the 1800s but there is no hockey stick shape that shows temperatures shooting up like the blade of a hockey stick. And when data is analyzed back through the Medieval periods, it also shows the expected shape where that period was warmer than now. And in fact, going back through the Holocene, there were several periods warmer than now and several periods where the earth warmed as fast as it did in modern times.
Here is the newest graph provided by Steve McIntyre. The red is the "selected data" from the CRU and Hockey Team members. The Green is a chronology based on more than 10X as much data as the CRU used. Steve McIntyre used all the data and didn't pick and chose data that when graphed would create a hockey stock shape. Steve shares the data with anyone who wants it and also shares the code used to analyze the data with anyone who wants it. Very very vexing to the hockey team.
