Where there are pigs ... there is (lots of) pig-poop. I wonder if they haul it off to Outer Mongolia, or if they just spread it on agricultural fields (which, I guess, is better than the current practice of disposing of human waste by using it as fertilizer).
I visited one of those big 'pig factories' in Iowa a couple of years ago. You could smell it five miles away, and the waste disposal system (with all the Federal, State, and Local regulations) equals the complexity of any large manufacturing plant.
One of the biggest travesties of Chinese growth over the past 30 years has been the significant environmental damage. Rivers that once provided food and income are totally polluted, and if you pay off the right local officials you can get away with anything.
I sure hope they start taking preventive measures pretty soon ... otherwise we will see some pretty ugly diseases being spread from Chinese farms.
