I guess it's the F/OSS culture or something.
It sort of reminds of the difference between Groklaw, and that MOG website.
MOG's
website was (maybe still is, haven't been there in years) so choked
with advertisements, the site was hardly usable. Going to Groklaw after
that was like a breath of fresh air.
It even shows up at the application level. For instance, back before everyone abandoned instant messaging for Facebook, I used to use Pidgin. Whenever I used the official clients on Windows, they always had an ad window, continously shouting advertisements at me. My reaction was always "how do Windows users put up with this shit?"
To answer my own question, they didn't and still don't know better.
