I think zincfinger is a smart scientist who has a lot to contribute to the MB, but he is also an unprincipled PUMPER whose emotional overinvestment leads to false claims
For example..."A LOT of people in the field are running very scared of SGMO's VERY solid IP lock on zinc fingers."
TOTAL NONSENSE!!! Zincfinger's RIDICULOUS statements on this subject make clear the extent of his ignorance.
Yes, SGMO has worked hard to establish a decent IP portfolio around ZFNs...and done a pretty thorough job...but it is nowhere near a "lock."
See my post "SGMO IP Risks" from yesterday...the TRUTH of the matter is that genetics patents are on even less firm ground than software patents today and there is a very good chance that patent laws in these areas will be significantly revised in the near future (and quite honestly, should be!). Never mind the fact that EVERYONE in academia and BP are against SGMO and united in trying to find legal or scientific work-arounds for ZFN IP...
DON'T BE MISLEAD BY OVEREMOTIONAL HYPSTERS!!! SGMO is on "relatively solid" IP ground AT BEST, but is nowhere near a "lock" on anything....
