Re: Ludwig von Mises in "Human Action."
I am Canadian too and the economic system is Capitalist. In fact the economic system in all the advanced countries is Capitalist. However the free market is modified by governments for political reasons. So wealth production is thereby hampered. Some modification is no doubt justified for social reasons, but if you tamper with the market too much, and burden it with too much tax, to support big government, the market will punish you by ceasing to produce sufficient wealth to support the free loaders and the parasites as well as the producers. I am 80 years old and remember living under Labour governments in the UK who espoused nationalisation of industry and supported unions whose restrictive practices and work stoppages constipated the economy, until Thatcher acted as a purge. When I came to Canada in 1961 my standard of living doubled once I had found employment.
