Third Point isn't the only new face in this stock by farThough with him added it only helps to paint the picture a little clearer for everyone else to see the situation for what it is and that this company is a desired sale by most shareholders.. Him being an activist investor only goes to accentuate why Aubrey and the board caved so easy on the director issue. In fact it just might be that he caused the board to have to decide just who it wanted to deal with here and on what terms. For all we know Daniel Leib was already expressing himself and making demands to the company. The point I am trying to make is that Aubrey and the former board have few shareholders that really care about seeing this company continue going forward and that if you took a poll of all of us the vote would be that if an offer at $27-28 was presented here that most shareholders would take it and if the offer was at $30 nearly all would accept it. Right now what you have is a lot of ownership by the risk takers and the arbatrage community as the normal buy and hold long term institutions will have sold out due to the allegations of impropriety in the many differant fashions that are constantly thrown at us by the press. These institutions were bound to sell due to lawsuits by the various pension funds that provide them with money and the risks associated if they held. Now what you have is those that believe that CHK will be sold which is good and also bad for those that want the best price available. You see the majors in this industry know all this as sure as I'm typing these comments and as such will play lowball to the best of their ability because they know that the holders will accept a lot less than what this company is worth today. This can easily explain why you have both Carl Icahn and Mason Hawkins doing everything they can to get the stock price up. Now if they can get the stock price to move so many in the arbitrage community that bought will sell out to a new group of well wishers as the arbs are usually be willing to accept profits lower than longterm holders would want. Another interesting new development has presented itself for us to digest.
