That's a compromise that won't work.
The long term promises of SS, Medicare, Medicaid, + interest, + the trillion we are already burning annually, + other bailouts and wars that are sure to come will require some combination of massive tax increases, massive spending cuts, and/or massive inflation that destroys savings. There is no compromise that works that anyone can be happy about.
On top of all that, what we really need is massive investment in infrastructure that we can't afford because we are borrowing and consuming ourselves into decades of stagnation.
