Re: STON, stonemor partners, has been nuked by Seeking alpha short bashers if you haven't seen
Good luck. I owned it as low as $9 and change from back in '08.
I've owned lots of MLPs over the years. Twice I got burned. One was with a small E&P partnership whose chairman stole $5 million (his name: Cash..no kidding!) and another was Star Gas, a propane MLP similar to STON in that it too was a roll-up.
Yes, yes, yes, I understand the appeal of yield. Over 90% of what I own and buy pays 5%+. My biggest position far and away is EPD, my most recent purchase is QRE, my biggest winner this year is RNF.
BUT...
It is SO easy to give back yield by capital deterioration. And in a world of high-yield opportunities there is no reason to own "problems." By the way, the analyst I mentioned said that the only reason he was at all familiar with STON was that it has tended to be the punchline at industry conferences he's attended. "Not a good sign," he added.
