I believe most overweight/obese people definitely want to be thinner. But that is not important. What is important is the fact that even with patients who may not have as much interest as we think about losing the weight will be compelled to do so by their doctors due to the overall health benefits it would bring.
I have a colleague at work who fits the latter category to the tee, he has literally been eating raisins/carrots for breakfast/lunch and dinner for the last couple of weeks because of what his doctor told him.
Before this doctor appointment, he occasionally made bets with co workers that he could lose 10 or 20 lbs but never legitimately worked towards that goal.
