My personal Belviq experience
I wanted to wait some time before describing my own personal experience with my self-proclaimed "Belviq Experiment." There are very few drugs that come to market that as an investor, you have the ability to assess through personal use. Given my long time investment and hypothesis around how this drug works, I wanted to try it for myself.
I have been into health and fitness for a number of years and as such, my BMI is very low and I don't qualify. I was able to have a physician friend write me a script and I wanted to accomplish two things. One, I wanted to cut out certain foods that I just get overwhelming cravings for, namely red meats and cheese. I cut out processed foods and carbs 2 1/2 yrs ago and I knew the first few weeks are the hardest to break the body's cravings. I also wanted to cut out beer and wine, mainly during the week. I don't drink liquor very often but would usually have a beer or two after work and then wine with dinner. Pretty much most days and I love both so cutting the habit is very difficult, especially because I love wine with dinner.
So could Belviq help me make the lifestyle changes I've struggled with? I do great in the mornings and lunch with my food choices and most of my challenges were 6PM on. Therefore, I thought Belviq once a day taken in the afternoon would work best. Thanks to the 15-day coupon from Eisai, my 1mo experiment was free. I started taking it in mid-July and the very first day, I had a marked reduction in cravings as I thought I would. A bit surreal actually given my previous habits. I went from 3 drinks a day on average to a couple of week. Often times, I'll only half of a beer or glass of wine. You just don't have the cravings or need to finish the glass of wine. Very easy to eat fish (which I also love) instead of the big steak. Smaller, normal, portion sizes. Birthday cake? Zero interest in a slice.
Other than a slight headache and dry mouth an hour after the first pill, really no side effects. Now, I did notice if I skipped 2 days then took one, I'd feel a bit weird for a bit then fine. I can absolutely see why you need to take Belviq twice a day for weight loss. For my purposes, once a day was fine. Definitely deeper sleep and if I did wake up, I'd fall back asleep faster.
I have not taken it in 10 days because I had some oral surgery and didn't want to take it with all of the other meds I had to take, but my experiment worked. It enabled me to make the lifestyle choices I wanted to make. Will I take it again? Probably, if I fall into my old habits but a month on it allowed me to invoke a lifestyle change. It is a willpower booster as trade stated in an earlier post. A. "Willpower" boosting drug, that by the way has a separate method of action to improve glucose control, has many uses. It is an excellent tool for those committed to break addictions to sugar, carbs and maintain the ability to make healthy choices. Many will need to take it chronically. Some will be able to only take it for a few months or maybe cycle it in and out. It is a very flexible medication. It is going to be a big seller, it is just going to take some time. How many Wall Street people and big Pharma execs have also tried the drug and like it?
